Poultice Massage

The herbs used in Luk Pra Kob translated from Thai as “pressing herbal sphere”  or herbal ball, is a method which Thai Practicioners and Massage Therapists employee.  These Herbal Balls, which are wrapped in cotton cloth and steamed for approximately 10-20 minutes prior to application, have been shown to have anti-inflammatory, analgesic and muscle relaxant properties. In addition, there are benefits to the skin as well as aroma-therapeutic properties to the herbs, whose essential oils are released with steam.

We will describe the major herbs that are used in herbal compresses, their beneficial properties, common poultice recipes, and how to prepare and use the poultices. We will discuss how to use an herbal compress with Thai massage and/or Therapeutic Massage and their therapeutic applications.  We will also learn the Western Version of Dried and Fresh Herbal Poultices, their ingredients, how they are made and what ailments they can be used for.

Each student will receive a Touch Education Starter Kit, included in the cost of the training. Since the application of the compress is best with skin contact, students should wear clothing that provides access to the back and shoulders, and either shorts or loose pants that can be rolled up.
